TARO Control Access

Page history last edited by Carla Alvarez 3 years, 1 month ago

This page has information about subject standardization work completed during the NEH implementation grant.

The TARO Control Access List is in two parts: a large list for general control access terms and a small list of terms only used for the Browse search facets on the TARO 2.0 website. Using terms from both parts of the list will allow a repository’s finding aids to appear in both the Browse search facets as well as the Advanced/keyword search results.

During the testing phase (July 13-August 16, 2021) of the TARO 2.0 Beta Public site members were encouraged to test adding browse subject terms to their finding aids.

Browse List

  • Used for the Browse search feature of the website.
  • A short list of high-level categories.
  • Finding aids that use Browse terms or terms closely matching Browse terms will appear in this part of the site. Finding aids that don’t will not appear in the Browse search feature.

Advanced List

  • Used for keyword/Advanced search features of the website.
  • A large list of all TARO-member contributed terms, cleaned up and reconciled.
  • Finding aids do not have to use these terms to appear in keyword/Advanced search.
  • They are strongly recommended to create consistent search results.

Documentation

  • TARO Control Access Documentation
  • Testing spreadsheet to compile feedback
  • Includes Browse and Advanced Lists – Testing and Using slide deck
